New Forum Information

Postby deltaadmin » Tue Nov 18, 2008 7:09 pm

Dear all forum users,

As you may have noticed we have implemented a new forum system on the clubs site. The old forums system we were using was creating a security risk for both the users of the forums and our server.

The new forum system will hopefully stop the bogus registration requests we were getting.

Unfortunately there was not anyway the content/user accounts from the old forum system to the new one.

Thanks

Scott

It is very disappointing that the screeds and screeds of useful information from the old forum has been lost forever from those who were surfing the worldwideweb.

The great debates between myself, the master of all things squashy, and that young whippersnapper, Jansher, will never be recreated again. Nor will the endless discussions about the merits of an after-match pizza vs a salad be brought to the table again.

Is this forum still being administered by Ron?

jahangir,

It is unfortunate that we couldn't move the posts over I agree but the move to the new forum was desperately needed.

Ron does not administer the site personally, but it is still his company (delta design) which is hosting it.

If you (or anyone else) has suggestion/changes for the site please let us know.

Thanks

You're looking for suggestions, Scotty. How about a raffle for the Wispa calendar girls for anyone who posts?

Anything to stop it becoming like the old forum, where Richard was the only one who posted anything, with only the tumbleweed and the stockbridge squasher for company.

Different Scott, methinks.

But there is only one Jahingar.

And he is better than Jansher.

Well done to Scott for doing such a fantastic job setting up the new forum. It was long overdue and quickly becoming an internet launch pad for all things nasty. The new forum has better security, however, it is down to all new members to help police it. I will be keeping an eye on content from time to time. If members wish to be made moderators to assist in the management of the forum, please contact Scott.

In the meantime, do encourage posting and suggest ideas for the site. With permission from the school I will enable members to buy Watsonian Squash promotional goods from the website now that we have the facility in-house to design and supply (See http://www.printing.com/promo). If this is of interest, I will have the logo vectorised for embroidery and screen printing. If there is enough interest, I will order batches of the products to keep the cost down.

I have recently received the fixture list for 2009 season. Could someone take the time to get this into the forum and any other topical information.

I am also considering having a PayPal link to enable subscription payment online using credit and debit cards. Your feedback on this would also be welcome.

Sponsorship, in the form of adverting logos and links on the site from £10 per month is also being sought to help support the website. Please contact us via the Delta Design website below to discuss your ideas.

Thanks again to Scott, keep up the good work!

Hi Scott,

Can we make a couple of changes to the site?

Brenda Carmichael is no longer the club treasurer. She is still the club secretary so we should probably keep her name as a contact.

I see that we have links on the homepage to a couple of other sites. We need to add links to George Watson's College, other Watsonian sports sections and other squash sites.

George Watson's College - http://www.gwc.org.uk/

The Watsonian Hockey Club - http://www.watsonianshockeyclub.com/

The Watsonian Cricket Club - http://www.watsoniancricket.co.uk/

The East of Scotland Squash Association - http://www.essasquash.co.uk/

Scottish Squash - http://www.scottishsquash.org/

All of the different Watsonian sports sections are supposed to have links to each other. I know that some of the sections have links and I will chase the others to add our forum to theirs. There are currently links to our forum on the George Watson's College, East of Scotland Squash Association and Scottish Squash websites, so we really should have links to their sites.

There are probably some other groups who should be linked to www.watsoniansquash.co.uk but I can't think of any just now.

Thanks,
Richard

Blimey, some people work fast.

I can't wait 'til it's finished.

Richard,

I've added all but one of the links. There isn't enough room on the main title menu but will find somewhere else to put it.

Also removed club treasurer from contact title.

Some spam managed to get through over the last couple of days. if you see anything send me a message and ill block/remove the user.

cheers
